Discover New Life in Christ

Pastor's Page

If someone were to ask you what it means to “be” a Christian, what would you say? I suspect that many people would say that “being” a Christian is about asking Jesus to come into your life and forgive you of your sins. That answer would be wrong! Accepting Jesus is how you “become” a Christian; actually living your life for Christ is what it means to “be” a Christian.

In my mind there are two passages that describe what it means to “be” a Christian. The first is the Great Commission that commands us to share the good news of Christ. The second is the Great Commandment in which Jesus tells us the Christian life is about relationships, loving God with all of our heart and loving others the same way we love ourselves. And these two ideas are actually connected, because it is our love for God and our love for others that motivates us to leave the comfort of our sanctuary and go into the world.

On the Sunday prior to my surgery, I challenged every member of this church to become a missionary . . . to find a way to make a difference in another person’s life. Did you accept that challenge? If you’ve not yet accepted that challenge, I want you to know that there are so many ways that you can become a missionary through Beechland’s ministries.  You can get involved in Sunday School on Missions. You can sponsor a child through Compassion International. You can take a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. You can take part in a mission trip within the US through Samaritans Purse. You can serve as a Family Minister or as a shut-in sponsor. There are so many ways that you can make a difference at Beechland. So let me challenge you one more time to become a missionary, and if you don’t know how just give me a call and I’ll help you find your place of service at Beechland.

God bless you,
Ken
